We would like the fate of every stray dog to be absolutely different. We cannot become blind to a harsh reality that reigns before our eyes, and in the face of which very few intervene to offer them the opportunity they deserve.
But in Taiwan, there is an organization called Animal Shelters , made up of independent volunteers, who do not receive government support, but whose commitment and love for the most vulnerable is so strong that they achieve true miracles thanks to their compassion.
They were alerted to a puppy that was lying on the side of the road
And although they were warned that what they would find would be shocking, nothing could prepare them for such a scene.
That day was one of the rainiest, and the poor little dog remained almost motionless, covered with an umbrella that one of the villagers had left him to protect him, and at least not to get wet.
They also left him some food.
Although it would have been better if everyone who saw it in that depressing state had done something for the little animal, the rescuer welcomed the fact that at least some good people, within their few possibilities, had that gesture of love with the little creature.
When he got closer, what he saw completely broke his heart…
Both of the dog’s legs were cut off, one of which was totally rotten and swollen, and infested with maggots.
When she wanted to pet him to show that she could trust him, she realized that it would be much more difficult than it seemed.
He was so scared and nervous, that he only showed aggression. It was his way of defending himself after so much suffering and mistreatment inflicted by humans.
He had lost all faith in humanity.
Why can we be so cruel to these innocent little angels?
How could the poor dog endure so much pain? It is something that outrages us and we will always deny the human race for committing such deplorable acts against animals that only know how to give love.
The volunteer had to use a muzzle to avoid being bitten. And although he tried to show her that he was very different from everyone else, the puppy was still very sullen, fearing that they would hurt him again.
With much effort, she managed to snuggle him into her arms and laid him lovingly and carefully in the back of the truck.
But even so, the furry refused to trust. He remained reluctant, and in an attack position, not only because of the great physical pain he felt, but because surely the mere presence of the human reminded him of his stormy past.
He begged with his eyes and his tears to calm down so much pain
Finally, he was taken to the organization’s veterinarians, who sadly had to amputate his legs to save his life.
They called it Shanxin
Days after the delicate surgery, Shanxin began to thrive.
They kept him in his cage, and with infinite patience, his rescuers spent hours and days, slowly trying to get closer to try and win back his trust.
They were touched that Shanxin never gave up . She fought so hard to save her life that it was worth every effort to win her heart.
Soon, they got him a wheelchair, which was like the great anchor he needed to start a life full of love and self-improvement, along with the other rescued puppies at the shelter.
Finally, Shanxin gave them the best of smiles.
And it didn’t take long for him to show them that he finally trusted his saviors. She now lives to the full, he doesn’t mind having only two legs, because he is as happy as he can be in his condition, they love him for who he is. And his rescuers couldn’t be more proud that his efforts paid off.
The magnificent transformation of this puppy is a reminder that with a little love every creature can manage to heal all its sad past, no matter how raw it may be. We send all our blessings to these capeless heroes. The world needs more angels like this.
